The liberal American political elite has lost touch with working class struggles and has enacted – through both the Democratic and Republican Parties – disastrous policies for working class people of all races, ethnicities, genders, and backgrounds. As Democratic Socialists we fight for truly progressive ideals. Our movements lift up all people.

Alaska provides a fertile stomping ground for socialists because its economy relies heavily on a mix of traditional forms of labor and service work, has high rates of union membership, a seasonal and traveling workforce, its difficult health care situation, direct and current impacts of climate change, reliance on state services for basic needs, and a culture of building strong communities through individual liberty – an idea that the full spectrum of democratic socialism holds close to heart.

Most of all, Alaskans are creative, and creativity is necessary when imagining better worlds.

After centuries of the capitalist patriarchal upper class demonizing working class and labor struggles, the people are again finding voice and pushing back against capitalist hegemony. We debate, celebrate, and push the conversation back to the left.

Here we create a common language and explore what’s important to us.
